What was so funny that sent out a rousing chorus of laughter from the Amitabha Caring Shelter (KL)? It turns out that the Laughter Yoga instructor who visited on January 12th (Saturday) came to teach the elderly residents the secret of laughter to help them maintain their physical and mental health at all times. Laughter is the best medicine because it releases stress and fills people with good vibes.

During the one and a half hours of exercise, the instructor led the elderly residents through various poses of Laughter Yoga, filling the caring shelter with the booming sounds of laughter. For this, we would like to thank the instructors sincerely and hope that these exercises can help our elderly friends cultivate the habit of laughter.

Led by teachers on 7th December, 23 kindergarten kids visited KL Amitabha Caring Shelter for a spring cleaning, which is a practice of welcoming the new year. After greeting the elderly, the hardworking kids started to complete their tasks allocated by teachers, eg. sweeping, wiping the floor, dusting the furniture and etc. Under teachers’ and social workers’ guidance, the kids created a spotless space within an hour. They were awarded a small box of biscuit. Through this activity, kids are inspired to share their love and care to the needy.

On 1st December (Saturday), Amitabha Malaysia convened a group of volunteers to clean the house of a helpless old lady. Her son suffered from cancer for a long time, and she lost the ability to do cleaning due to weak health. Not to mention, it is physically demanding for her, especially as a senior, to take care of the hygiene at home. In order to offer a comfortable space to live, volunteers teamed up to improve the hygiene condition and clean up the place. After 4 hours of hard work, the old lady finally has a clean and cosy home.
