It has been a stringent year for Amitabha Malaysia. As the pandemic situation in Johor worsen, the government announced Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) on 10 November.
During this period of time, donors were unable to visit Amitabha Buddhist Orphanage, Dialysis Center and Caring Home. In addition, various charitable activities were unable to be conducted.
It has been a predicament in fundraise materials and cash for orphanage, nursing home and dialysis center. We hereby appeal the public to donate and help us overcome these difficulties

The provision relief programme by Amitabha Malaysia started with the basic necessity of life, including rice, oil and salt. The programme aims to improve the living condition of underprivileged families regardless of religion and race. The supplies are distributed monthly to 230 needy families in Kuala Lumpur and Johor. Every month, volunteers visit the families to extend their comfort and care.
Since the Movement Control Order in March, the number of beneficiaries has gradually increased, making it tougher in raising provision. Despites all the challenges during this period, we have not forgotten our mission. We will definitely go all out to ignite hope for poor families.
Once again, Amitabha Malaysia is thankful to people from all walks of life for their continuous help and assistance.

Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 pandemic and the peak of dengue fever, Amitabha Malaysia and Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) co-organized a blood donation campaign on 1 November in Putuo Village, Kulai.
Since Johor reinforced the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), we implemented various prevention work at the blood donation venue.
In order to safe-keep the enthusiastic donors, we took precautionary measures in the waiting area, testing area and blood donation area.
In addition, Nature Concept TCM doctors were present to provide free consultation.
During the event, we witnessed a gentleman persuading his wife to participate in the campaign.
They were discussing about the benefits of blood donation. Indeed, there are many advantages in blood donation!
According to old tradition, it has always been misunderstood that blood donation could cause loss of body weight and health disorder. In fact, blood donation is a good act to help others and oneself.
In addition to saving lives, it also helps blood circulation and promotes one’s metabolism. Regular blood donation enables blood to flow smoothly, reducing blood viscosity and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
“Could you please help me to look for a nursing home that is free of charge?” That was the first question that Uncle Yap asked when I was about to strike a conversation with him.
Uncle Yap, 75, has a daughter and he is a dialysis patient. He is currently staying alone at his daughter’s house. Few years back, Uncle Yap’s wife suffered a stroke, unable to move and was sent to a nursing home. The daughter is bearing the monthly expenses of the nursing home that costs about RM3,000.
Due to the pandemic, Uncle Yap has not seen his wife and daughter for the past seven months. Before the outbreak, every month, his daughter would visit Uncle Yap and brings him to the nursing home to see his wife. From our chat, I deeply felt his yearning for his families.
Uncle Yap is very independent and tries hard not to make his daughter who is staying in Singapore worries about him. He manages his daily food and cleans the house on his own. He jokingly said, “No one would even knows if I die at home.”
Uncle Yap takes cab to Amitabha Hemodialysis Centre. Each return trip will cost RM20. Uncle Yap feels guilty as he thinks he is a burden to his daughter, and repeatedly asked to locate a nursing home with no cost.
Uncle Yap is an optimistic person, smiling throughout the conversation. He said he could only face all obstacles bravely as things has happened.
We hope Uncle Yap could be optimistic, stay happy and healthy.
Remarks: Amitabha Malaysia is in discussion with relevant departments, hoping to fulfil Uncle Yap’s wish.
Amitabha Malaysia received a call from a kind-hearted volunteer. The volunteer saw an old uncle begging at the road side. The volunteer could not bear to leave the old and weak uncle, thus followed him home to understand the situation.
After a long conversation with this uncle, it was learnt that he had a heart disease. The hospital recommended him to undergo heart surgery that would cost around RM22,000. The old uncle was at loss upon hearing the huge amount of medical expenses. The volunteer hope that we could provide assistance by raising funds for him.
We visited the old uncle at his home after a brief from the volunteer. This single uncle is 73 years old and is currently staying with an Indian lady. A year ago, uncle sheltered the 65 years old lady upon seeing her begging on the street. At present, the lady cooks and keeps the home clean.
Uncle is reluctant to undergo the operation. He feared his old age would not be able to cope with the surgery. During the visit, we noticed that the groceries supplies at home is not much. Uncle shared that the donation from passer-by was not much and is only sufficient to buy rice and instant noodles. Starting from November, Amitabha Malaysia would be supplying groceries to uncle in hope to lighten up the burden.
Our appreciation to our kind volunteer who tipped off us on uncle’s plight, enables us to aid the needy.

We are constantly receiving distress call from public. As such, Amitabha Malaysia introduced provision relief programme on a monthly basis. We welcome community who loves to help and care for people to join us as a volunteer, assisting us for monthly groceries distribution. During the Kidney Healthathon – A Whole New Life event held last weekend, Amitabha Malaysia organized the Blood Donation Drive supported by HSA and KPJ.
The two-day event received overwhelming response from donors and we successfully collected 200 bags of blood. During this unprecedented time, the organization acted on the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) set by the authority by minimizing contact between one another and took precautionary measures in line with prevention efforts. Our appreciation to our enthusiastic volunteers who assisted the event. We aspire more people to join us to contribute the love to building a caring society together!
Last weekend (26 – 27 September 2020), Amitabha Malaysia organised “Kidney Healthathon – A Whole New Life” at AEON MALL Tebrau City Ground Floor. The annual event aspired to raise public awareness on kidney disease and promoting healthy lifestyle.
During the Movement Control Order (MCO), many become jobless, losing their earnings and unable to return to the old normal. Many daily wages earners and netizens who lost their source of earning, experienced great difficulties to sustain their day-to-day living. Our event partner – Nala Employment Agency assisted job-lookers for career application.
Since mid-July, Amitabha Malaysia introduced employment scheme assisting people who lost their income during this challenging time. Our gratitude to public who donated to these families who are experiencing great difficulties due to the pandemic.
On the event day, our event partners – 3 doctors from Nature Concept TCM and SP Healthcare conducted free medical consultation and urine test to visitors as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The one-stop Chinese and Western consultation on the day managed to attract public participation.
As a move to increase environmental awareness, Yellow Bin launched an environmental protection plan, appealing to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for collaboration. Once a month, Yellow Bin would visit the partners and collect recyclable waste and items. This would assist the busy working professionals on housekeeping, generating environmental leaders besides building a greener community.
In addition, Amitabha Malaysia specially invited Perpustakaan Sultan Ismail for a Reading Corner in the mall. The move to assemble in a library of books is to cultivate reading habit among the community especially during this lockdown period to remind everyone to constantly upgrading one’s knowledge and skills to be prepared for tomorrow.
In compliance with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), The 2020 Great Merit Sharing Emperor Liangwu Dharma Assembly engaged with the public via offline and online platform. The four-day event was transmitted live via Facebook Amitabha Malaysia and Putuo Village whereby at one time attracted more than hundreds of viewers. In order to control the number of devotees at the event, the organiser adopted online registration to adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) set by the government. The attendees gave their full cooperation throughout the event, obeyed to the procedures of scriptures chanting and offering incense on their loved ones’ tablets. The attendee’s devotion and love towards the deceased and Chinese heritage remain unchanged despite many new normal after COVID-19 global pandemic outbreak.
